Session 12

We are at the last session of the class this week. I will miss its discussion threads and mini projects. However, diferrent concepts we developed through this summer will be useful. This class is one of my favorite informative classes I have taken in college. I like the way the teacher designs the class. The thing I appreciate the most is the teacher's reliability. He was in the class all the time that I can't make the difference between face to face lecture and the online's. I like also the teacher’s cultural orientation. His feedbacks are punctual and very constructive. The course focused on our day to day technologies. It was a good journey if I can say so.

Session11

This is the final week. It is hard to focus on two major papers and concentrate on the final. I have a few postings that I have to fill up too. My laptop is back and I hope the revision will be smooth. I can use my computer while am commuting. I can also do my readings and writing.

session 10

In this session 10, we have to finish our group project. We are almost at the end. I woke up that morning to catch up with my readings, but oof!!!! My laptop cooling system failed. I started my deskstop it kept ask me to reboot the computer. I run to the community college close to myhouse to continue my work. When I got there, the library was closed. What is this curse? I didn’t want my collaborators to think that I dumped them!!!! This is some challenges we face when we rely too much on technologies.
Working with people on different corners of the world on a unique project is not easy. But people in my team were very discipline and want to be part of the task. I hope that in the session 11 we will be able to submit our project on time and be really for the final.

Session 9

This week, we cover security risk in the information system. Security is the challenge that we face on the regular basis. Either in shopping centers, hospitals, markets, or on social networks, we expose our information to anybody that can manipulate the technology. I was thinking about all those months I spent using my neighbor Wi-Fi network. I thought he was kind to me when he offered the chance to use his network. I hope he had not used this for his own personal gain. Now I’m worry because I didn’t know what he was doing with my information all that time. I know that he is in IT. This course on security thought me how our ignorance can leads us to our ruin. Now that I know the risk we face when using other’s network, computers and applications, it is very imperative for me to apply my organization requirements. Not only these requirements would be observed at my workplace, but I will also make sure that my family respects these guidelines at home. We will change our password regularly, install the firewall, and run the antivirus.
We also make a correction to the Wikipedia. During this exercise, it realized how easy it is manipulate wikipedia information. A classmate intentionally put wrong information that was turned down two hours later. Event the information was taken off, I believe that two hours are enough for somebody to use that information that was not right. I believe that Wikipedia is source where we can get quick information, but when using it for research, we should think twice.

Session8

In this session we did a SWOT analysis on our company of choice. This exercise helped us to discover the strength and weakness of the company that we serve. We also discussed about the importance of planning in our life. The group agreed on how planning couldn’t be ignored in our daily business if we want to be successful and maximize our outcome. We went through also the Software Development Life Cycle. We discussed about it importance in the web development. Some of us raised it ability to be adapted to different program.

Session 7

In this week, we discuss about challenges that workers face in US which result from globalization. I can see clearly the anger of my classmates about the ideas that their jobs are exported to China, India and Taiwan etc..... Some of students argued that those jobs that are exported are not high skill jobs and the profit of those jobs are invested here in the US so that American can go to school and acquire high tech trainings to be competitive here at home.
We also worked on the fedscope trends. I have a change to analyze the US Department of Interior data in which the department use a Goal-Seeking analysis to fill its staff. The department hires its staff progressively to cover the retired workforce.

Session 6

This session closed the first phase of the summer ITEC. The mid term was not that bad. It covered the first five chapters of the course and in class discussions that we had in our conferences. The concepts we covered were very fundamental in business development. We can read, data warehouse and mining, CRM and ERP, importance of WLAN in the networking, and information system applications. I’m looking for the second part of the term with new concepts that I can’t wait to explore with Les.

Session5

This week was very interesting. First, we started by looking for our unique business that will make us a millionaire!! The search was though and we have some unbelievable ideas. Second, we discussed about whether Enterprise Collaboration Systems contribute to the bottom line for the business. We reckoned the role these systems play in our 3G world. It is revealed that the use of the new technology such, internet, video conferences, social networking, and phones kill the concept of space and time. We also debated on reasons why many Dot-com failed in the early 2000. It was interesting to share different views on this question. Some people think that the failure was due to the absence of appropriate business plans. Others think that it was just a greed for companies to make quick profits. Finally, we share our thoughts on the ERPs. The class think that the Enterprise Resources Planning application is difficult to use and will be obsolete with the time. However, it appreciates the role that ERP plays in maximizing companies’ revenues. As usual, this week was rich in knowledge sharing. I have some challenges with my unique idea of online business but I’m looking forward the next session concepts.

session 4

This week, I have an account on twitter! Now people can follow me all day long. In the class discussion, we reckoned the role that social networking webs play in the Iranian election. The class mentioned that, the traditional journalism is influenced now by the third generation information gadgets. Now it is easy for any one to broadcast at any corners on the globe. Cell phones and camera can report where the traditional journalist can't go.
We also exchanged our thoughts on the revolution in WLAN and IPv6. It was clear that IPv6 will make the use of the internet easy and cheap around the world. Some people gave the example of China and Japan that are changing networking in order to respond to the exponential demands of the internet. The reflection that catches my attention was the impossibility of the developing nation to adopt this new avenue of the IPv6. These countries, can not afford the high cost related to this infrastructure. While developed countries are done with the IPv4, the third countries still on the first generation. It will be hard for them to compete with the periphery. The strong will always be the stronger.

Session3

During the week three of this course, we have a chance to assess the Zillion.com. Some people think that it is a good tool for first buyers or those who want to refinance their homes. Some think that the Website needs to do more turn up. Perfection is not in this world. The overall assessment of the Zillion is good. Also in this session, it is arguable that making data available on the web constituted a challenge to us. Some of the information that we post on the internet may contain some vulnerable information that can be used for criminal matters. It was pointed out by few of us that since we are dealing with the information technology, we can’t have a risk free, but we need to be careful on what we put online.

Session 2

The week two is overall great. The thing I like about this session is the class discussion. I learn more in the conference room than in the actual textbook. We share different views on the roles, benefits and risk of the technology in our day by day’s life. Most of people who intervene in this class deal with computers and know pretty much what they talk about. I enjoy reading their comments and different views. This week, we discuss about the technology refresh and data storage. During this session, I completed my mini project on the fictional diary entry. I had a chance to try the podcast and the video thread which opened me another horizon. I think I will be able to build a video thread for my daughter’s first birthday on next Saturday if she wants too. I’m also familiarized with main components of a computer. I can recall that computer is composed of software which is subdivided in two programs: application and system software. The application software has two tasks that are general purpose and specific. In other hands, the system software is split into the system management programs and development. The system management takes care of the hardware, software and network. I look forward more ideas this week

My first week

Wow!! Did I learn something in the first week? Hey yeah. Last week was very informative. The discussion thread refreshed my memory and stimulated my learning latent habits. I enjoyed the colorful discussion that each one of us laid out. I have broad views on the way the information technologies change the traditional management and the failure of the IT in business. The fist project we submitted helps me gain new skill of creating blogs. I wanted to have one longtime ago but I have no ideas on how to make it. Les different interventions and feedbacks complete my knowledge. I’m looking forward next week projects and challenges.
